Special Education Case Manager

The compliance specialist will be responsible for maintaining documentation and managing matters related to special education compliance with a full spectrum of federal and district requirements. This position will also assist in sustaining policies and systems that ensure Capital Village’s overall compliance with student support services regulations, working closely with our student support services staff and school leaders.

Responsibilities:

Drive Compliance

  • Oversee compliance of student support services files
  • Own scheduling and holding IEP, SEP, Eligibility, and 504 meetings in a timely manner
  • Maintain the special education database system (SEDS)
  • Manage due process actions
  • Coordinate the alternate assessment for students with disabilities
  • Serve as the LEA Representative in all MDT meetings
  • Take comprehensive meeting notes and/or monitors notes taken by case managers; records dissenting opinions
  • Receive and review monthly reports on the status of outstanding IEP documentation
  • Ensure that the proper paperwork is completed for meetings and that the follow-through after the meeting is completed timely and efficiently

Support Instruction

  • Ensure IEPs are compliant with federal and district regulations, goals are standards based and relevant for the individual student, and present levels of performance are appropriate and current.
  • Facilitate data-based discussions to help the MDT design IEPs to best support student growth
  • Facilitate the collaboration between instructors, families, agencies and support team in the interest of continued student achievement
  • As needed, create and facilitate small groups of students in order to make progress towards student goals
  • Other school priorities as they arise.

Abilities, Knowledge, and Mindset You Bring to Capital Village:

  • At least three years of work experience in special education
  • Certification in Special Education, English Language Learning, Related Service area (i.e. Speech-Language/School Psychology/Social Work), and/or School Leadership preferred
  • At least three years of teaching experience in an urban school setting, preferably at the middle school level
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of culturally-competent education, MTSS, 504 administration, Special Education law, best practices, and instructional methods
  • A track record of success in increasing the achievement of students with disabilities
  • Entrepreneurial and continuous improvement mindset, with the drive, passion to innovate, and tolerance of ambiguity needed for a school startup environment
  • Belief in creating an inclusive, engaging and supportive environment for staff, families, and students and a deep commitment to equity and anti-bias/anti-racist education
  • Candidates should be certified in Special Education or pursuing certification

Standout Candidates May Also Bring:

  • General knowledge or experience in supporting English Language Learners
  • Speak more than one language (at minimum English/Spanish bilingual) 
  • Subject matter expertise in a core subject area (Math, English, Social Studies, or Science)
